Pro Bono Legal ExperiencePro bono publico: for the public good; for the welfare of the whole.- Black's law Dictionary, 6th ed. "Justice is indiscriminately due to all, without regard to numbers, wealth, or rank."- John Jay (1745-1829) Pro bono work is one of the most important ways for a law student and lawyer to give back to their community. By providing legal assistance to indigent individuals, the voiceless, and the underrepresented, the legal community embraces its truest calling: ensuring access to justice for all. Pro Bono OpportunitiesThe opportunities to do pro bono work are in all areas of the law. Some projects are short-term, while others are an opportunity for long-term project committment. For more information on current opportunities, please contact Mary Ann Willis, Assistant Dean for Professional Development. Pro Bono Recognition ProgramThe Pro Bono Recognition Program seeks to encourage and recognize public service by law students who have successfully completed at least 50 hours of pro bono legal work at an approved placement. Such students receive a certificate signed by the Dean and the Assistant Dean and the designation of Pro Bono Honoree on their academic transcripts.
