Manual of Policies and Procedures of Capital University Law School
(Amended August 2007)

Foreward

This Manual of Policies and Procedures of Capital University Law School is the official compilation of such governing policies and procedures.

Please note the organization of the contents. There are several major subject headings, each designated by a Chapter # . Each major subject heading is followed by sections relating to specific policies and procedures, each designated by a Section #. Further subsections are denoted by a Decimal ##. Chapter #, Section #, and Decimal ## are separated by a decimal point. Thus, "4.7.06" indicates:

Chapter 4. Academic Regulations
Section 7. Examinations and Grades
Subsection .06 Grade Distribution and Median

The Manual is not paginated with successive pages. This facilitates the revision and addition of pages without the necessity of reprinting successive pages. Rather, the lower right-hand corner of each page of the published policy manual indicates the chapter number, the specific policy or procedure number, and the page number of that policy or procedure, separated by a decimal. Thus, "4.7.6" indicates the page location for the policy and procedures governing grade distributions and medians:

Caveat: A page number need not match the provision. When citing to materials in this Manual, please be clear whether you are citing to the policy or procedure or to the page on which the policy or procedure is found.

The lower left-hand corner of each page of the published policy manual has a notation that indicates the effective date of the subject matter on that page. As revisions or additions are made, a new page can be inserted with a new date. The original pages of the manual carry an effective date of "1/1/86." In 1990, and again in 1997, entire parts of the manual were completely reprinted, and carry the date of "8/1/90" or "6/1/97" even though the policies were not changed from those carrying a prior date. Due to computer software update, which has changed the formatting of many pages necessitating the reprinting of this Manual, most pages carry the date 8/15/01, except those that were changed recently with this printing.

New to this Manual is a page titled Index of Current Pages@, which indicates the current date of each page in the book. The Index of Current Pages@ will be amended whenever there is an amendment or addition to the manual. This will help you determine if you have the most up to date page.

Following is an index of provisions from the Manual of Policies and Procedures. These provisions should help answer most of your questions. However, if you are unsure of an answer to a question or problem, please contact Leslie Gardner (Registrar) or Shirley Mays ( Associate Dean of Academic Affairs).  Variances from any of the provisions contained in the Manual require the submission and approval of a "Request for Dean's Action"  (forms in registrar's office) by the Associate Dean.
