Submit an Article to Law Review

The Capital University Law Review gladly considers unsolicited manuscripts for publication. Our general guidelines for submitting manuscripts are as follows:

  1. Publication Schedule and Submission Dates: We publish four issues per year. Accordingly, we accept submissions on a “rolling” basis through the calendar year.

  2. Contributors: We are most interested in publishing articles by law school faculty members and judges. Although we are happy to consider articles by practitioners and law clerks, we do not consider work by current law students.

  3. Forms of Submissions: We accept submissions in the form of articles, essays, commentaries, and book reviews.

    Articles: Although we consider articles of any length, we are particularly interested in publishing concise scholarship between 50-70 law review pages.
    Commentaries and Book Reviews: Commentaries and book reviews can be substantially shorter than articles.
    Essays: Generally, we make no firm distinction between articles and essays. However, essays tend to be shorter (under 50 pages or 200 footnotes) and narrower in scope than articles. The primary purpose of an essay is to advance an idea, to summarize a development, or to initiate or engage in a discussion.

  4. Submission Media: We accept submissions either electronically (by e-mail) or in hard copy form. We do not accept submissions on disk or by fax.

  5. Submission Address: Electronic submissions should be sent to lawreview@law.capital.edu, and should include the subject line: ARTICLE SUBMISSION: [insert title of manuscript]. Please address hard copy submissions to:

    Capital University Law Review
    Attn: Executive Articles Editor
    303 East Broad Street
    Columbus, OH 43215

  6. Submission Format: Manuscripts should be double-spaced. Citations in manuscripts should appear in footnotes, not endnotes. Footnotes should conform to the 18th edition of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation.

    NOTE: Although we give due deference to authors with regard to substantive concerns, we are more particular about citation form and content.

  7. Contributor Information: All manuscripts submissions should be accompanied with a cover letter and curriculum vitae. The cover letter should prominently feature

    • the article’s title;
    • the author’s e-mail address;
    • the author’s mailing address;
    • a daytime telephone number; and,
    • if applicable, a short list of the author’s published scholarly works.

    A brief description of the article is welcome, but a lengthy abstract is neither required nor desired.

  8. Submission Status and Selection Process: The Capital University Law Review carefully considers all manuscripts that it receives. The selection process for each article, essay, commentary, and book review begins the day a manuscript is received by the Executive Articles Editor (“EAE”).

    Submission Status: Upon receipt of a manuscript, we will e-mail you an acknowledgment that we received the manuscript.
    Selection Process: At least two editors review every submission.
    Offer for Publication: If we would like to offer you publication, the EAE will telephone you and send you a formal offer letter. We send rejections by U.S. Mail. From the date the offer is extended, the author typically has one week to accept or decline the offer.

  9. Expedited Review: If another journal has formally accepted your article, we will make every effort to comply with a request for expedited review. To request an expedited review, please e-mail lawreview@law.capital.edu or call (614) 236-6789, and provide us with:

    • Your name, phone number, and e-mail address
    • The title of the article
    • The journal that has accepted it
    • Your deadline

  10. Antidiscrimination Policy: It is the policy of the Capital University Law Review not to discriminate on the basis of race, gender, age, religion, ethnic background, marital status, disability, or sexual orientation. As a matter of policy, the Law Review encourages and promotes the use of gender-neutral language.

Thank you for your interest in the Capital University Law Review.
