
Incoming Student Scholarship and Fellowship OpportunitiesAll applicants admitted to the J.D. Program at Capital are automatically considered for institutional scholarship. Scholarship decisions are made by the Admission Committee and are based primarily on undergraduate academic performance and LSAT score. These scholarships are renewable provided the student maintains the required GPA in the J.D. Program. Presidential Merit ScholarshipThe Presidential Merit Scholarship is awarded based on academic merit specifically related to an applicant's entering credentials. The scholarship is renewable each academic year provided the recipient maintains a 3.0 cumulative grade point average in the J.D. Program. The Presidential Merit Scholarship award amounts range from $3,000 up to full tuition. Trustee's Merit ScholarshipThe Trustee's Merit Scholarship is awarded based on academic merit specifically related to an applicant's entering credentials. The scholarship is renewable each academic year provided the recipient maintains a 3.0 cumulative grade point average in the J.D. Program. The Trustee's Merit Scholarship award amounts range from $9,000 to $15,000. Dean's ScholarshipThe Dean's Scholarship is awarded based on academic merit and overall quality of an applicant's background and experience as presented in the admission application material. The scholarship is renewable each academic year provided the recipient maintains a 2.0 cumulative grade point average in the J.D. Program. Recipients of the Dean's Scholarships are required to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. The amount of the individual Dean's Scholarship awards vary. These decisions are made by the Admission Committee on a case-by-case basis. Paralegal ScholarshipApplicants admitted to the J.D. Program at Capital who also hold a Paralegal Certification from an ABA approved paralegal program will be considered for the Paralegal Scholarship. These decisions are made on a case-by-case basis and vary in amount. Capital University Paralegal ScholarshipApplicants admitted to the J.D. Program who also hold a Paralegal Certification from Capital University will be considered for the Capital University Paralegal Scholarship. The Paralegal Program administration nominates a recipient for the award. The amount of the award ranges from $5,000 to $7,500 and is distributed over the three or four years the student is in the J.D. Program. Although Capital University 's Paralegal Program is ABA approved, an applicant can not be considered for both paralegal scholarship types. The Robert Weiler Company ScholarshipRobert and Missy Weiler established this scholarship in 1994. Robert Weiler received his J.D. from Capital University Law School in 1983. Mr. and Mrs. Weiler sponsor an award each year to an incoming African-American law student. The Capital University Law School Admission & Financial Aid Office sends out a mailing to all incoming African-American students with specific information about the scholarship and application process. The recipient is selected based on the strength of their scholarship application as well as the strength of their entering credentials. The award is given in the amount of $8,000 for the recipient's first year of law school. This is a one-time award and is not renewable. Marsha Rockey Schermer Memorial ScholarshipEstablished by the Columbus Bar Association in memory of Marsha Rockey Schermer, this scholarship promotes the ideals and beliefs that Ms. Schermer championed during her lifetime. The scholarship was established to assist women and African-American students from Central Ohio . The Capital University Law School Admission & Financial Aid Office sends out a mailing to all incoming female and/or African-American students with specific information about the scholarship and application process. The recipient is selected by the Columbus Bar Association based on the strength of the scholarship application. The selection committee is looking for the applicant who best exemplifies Ms. Schermer 's commitment to equality, her enthusiasm for learning, and her enjoyment of classical music, art and nature. The scholarship is awarded in the amount of $5,000 and it is renewable annually provided the student remains in satisfactory academic standing.
