Professional Bio

Mary Ann received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.  She externed with the Honorable Nathaniel Jones at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and clerked for the Honorable David A. Nelson, also at the Sixth Circuit, upon graduation.  Following her clerkship, Mary Ann joined the Cincinnati law firm of Frost & Jacobs (now known as Frost Brown Todd) where she practiced primarily in the areas of labor and employment law and health law.  Subsequently, Mary Ann was appointed counsel to the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, D.C., where she served the Court for seven years.

Among other activities, Mary Ann has been a freelance writer, board member for a mental health center, certified ombudsperson for a nursing home, volunteer lawyer for the poor, psychiatric and postpartum nurse, facilitator for groups exploring vocational goals, and program director for the National Religious Partnership for the Environment.  In 1994, she received the Nicholas Longworth III Alumni Achievement Award for Distinguished Professional Service from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.  In 1997, she was elected as a fellow of the Society for Values in Higher Education, an organization of teachers and others committed to the exploration of ethical issues facing higher education and society.

Mary Ann earned her Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude from Wittenberg University which she attended as a National Merit Scholar and a Presidential Scholar.  She also has a nursing degree from the University of Cincinnati and has pursued graduate studies at Wesley Theological Seminary and Hartford Seminary, where she earned a certificate from the Women's Leadership Institute and was awarded the Bennett Tyler Scholarship for excellence in writing. 

Mary Ann is a member of the Ohio Bar and has been admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.  She is a member of the Columbus , Ohio State, American, and Federal Bar Associations; Women Lawyers of Franklin County; the National Association for Law Placement; and the Ohio Law Placement Consortium.
