Part of the search process requires thorough research of employers.  Beyond just looking for employment opportunities, having a working knowledge of types of organizations, employers, and fields of practice is crucial to making wise choices.

Private Employer Websites

• If you want to research law firms, try www.martindale.com or www.nalpdirectory.com.   Both have great information on employers.

• Look at individual employer websites by using an internet search engine.

Government Websites

Federal

• USAJOBS - A listing of federal job postings across the country

• US Department of Justice - A comprehensive site about the application process and vacancies within the Department of Justice, the largest "law firm" in the country

• Student Jobs - A listing of federal jobs specifically geared toward students

State & Local

Checking the "Employment Opportunities" section of these state and local government sites is a good start.  Networking with others is important because many jobs are quickly filled or are never posted.

• Vermont Law School's Guide to State Judicial Clerkships - An extremely detailed and informative site listing addresses, links, and even salaries for judicial clerkships in every state.  Contact the Career Services Office for the Username/Password.

• Taxtalent.com - If you love tax, you'll love this site.

• Mediate.com - Billing itself as "the world's dispute resolution channel," this site is subject specific, but covers the entire country.

• Environmental Career Opportunities - Job listings for those interested in environmental careers.  Contact the Career Services Office for the Username/Password

• PSLawNet - Job postings that are public service related.

• National Association of Women Lawyers - Job posting hosted by the National Association of Women Lawyers.

• Indeed - A search engine which queries job posting boards and lists the results.

• Ohio State Bar Association - The Career Center allows you to search jobs nationally.

• Columbus Dispatch Classifieds - Even the Classified section has legal jobs!
